Danette Shelly, MA LAPC

Life can feel complicated—emotions get heavy, hope can seem distant, and relationships often bring uncertainty. My therapeutic approach begins with creating safety and trust, because I believe a strong foundation is essential in a counseling relationship. As a therapist, I recognize the deep responsibility of being invited into your private world, and I hold that with respect and care. Whether or not trust has been broken in the past, my commitment is to provide a safe space where the hard things can be spoken out loud and wounds can be explored and understood. It is an honor to answer God’s call to join people in their most difficult seasons, trusting in His deep love and care for each person.

I can help you or your teen navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, or addictive tendencies as well as develop skills to thrive amidst the challenges of neurodivergence like ADHD or autism. I have extensive clinical experience with addiction, and family members of addicted loved ones, I will help you take care of yourself amidst the chaos. Additionally, I hold deep respect for the life seasons of parenthood and aging; and moms and caregivers, you don’t have to lose yourself along the way.  I generally counsel under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), specifically Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). However, I integrate other modalities into session according to your unique needs. If faith plays a significant role in your life, we can combine spiritual integration with proven, evidence-based methods to support your growth. I see clients at both the East Peterburg and downtown Lancaster locations, as well as online.

Being intentional in searching for a therapeutic space shows courage, and it matters—because you matter. My hope is to walk alongside you, offering support as you recognize and challenge the thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that get in the way—so you can grow, embrace life with greater joy, and be reminded of your inherent worth.

I hold a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling from Lancaster Bible College. I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, currently working toward full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor. A Lancaster County native, I’ve always valued the area’s natural beauty and the strong sense of community. I’ve been married for 30 years and a parent of two grown children. In my free time, I enjoy creative pursuits, reading, volunteering, and spending meaningful time with family and friends.
