Lisa Millhouse MS LPC

I consider it a privilege to walk beside my clients, to support and encourage them through whatever struggles they are having in life. I enjoy helping clients gain new insight and self-awareness. I like to empower clients by helping them understand exactly what is getting in the way of personal growth as they seek to more forward and overcome obstacles. I primarily use a client-centered approach, which means it’s my job to help clients access their own inner recourses and resilience. I also teach the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that clients learn new ways to cope with life’s challenges. Sometimes a sand tray helps clients to access part of themselves that they were not really aware of and is beneficial when words just aren’t enough. I also teach mindfulness based stress reduction, mindful self-compassion, and use Art Therapy techniques when working with clients. My 26 years of experience provide me with a broad skill set of therapeutic techniques for a wide variety of issues. I enjoy working with anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and other neuro-diverse adults with ADHD or on the Autism spectrum.  I often use mindfulness techniques for emotional regulation issues such as anger management. I see clients in person at our East Petersburg location, and also offer online therapy.

I grew up in the Lancaster area and obtained a bachelor and masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Millersville University. I also pursued additional higher levels of education to deepen my knowledge in the field. Throughout my years of experience, I worked in community mental health, psychiatric clinic, private practice, and a grief and loss center. I have worked with a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, and adjusting to life transitions.

I love the Lancaster area and enjoy visiting historical places as well as the many beautiful parks and hiking areas. In my spare time, I practice photography as a hobby and enjoy painting with acrylics.
